"Now Ace!" Ellie instructed firmly, planting herself in front of the young stallion she was in charge of riding and training, and holding him by the cheekpieces of his bridle, "You are not allowed to run about with me. You are not allowed to chase any other horses, male or female. And you MUST listen to what I say. If you do those things, we might win. So if I say shorten a stride, you shorten it! And if I say woah, you do that! Got it?"
Ace head-butted her by way of understanding.
"Thanks for nothing..." She muttered. She knew she shouldn't be quite so harsh on th stallion, the rotational fall hadn't been his fault, but she was terribly nervous, even if she had been doing bigger events back home. That was back home. This was bigger.
Well...maybe she could count on the cameras to be following the four-star competitors rather than her.
It seemed the head-butt had been more of a "Shut up and let me drive" than a "I completely understand your emotional turmoil, I accept and shall comply". Ace nearly wiped out several competitors when he mistook her aid for halt to trot to mean halt to gallop-in-the-style-of-Moony, with plenty of bucks and twists. Once that was out of his system, all Ellie had to do was stop him mimicking Prince's juggernaut-style trot.
"I could really do with a few lessons from Scott and Laura right now." Ellie sighed heavily, patting Ace on the neck as he came back to a perfectly square halt. "Just pose that prettily in the arena and maybe they'll miss the bit where you kick out their box window with one of your little kicks."
